On the full-moon night of the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar, people all over Thailand float krathongs – little rafts of banana leaf and flowers with a candle and incense – on rivers, lakes and the sea. It is a thank-you to the water, a way to let go of the past year’s worries and a moment for a wish.
A digital krathong leaves nothing behind. If you float a real one, choose natural materials such as banana trunk, banana leaves and flowers – no foam, no plastic.
